Science Olympiad
Advisor: Scott Weigum, Room 203 / Randy Krogstad
Science Olympiad is often described as track meets for science & engineering, consisting of a series of 23 team events. Each year, a portion of the events are rotated to reflect the ever-changing nature of genetics, earth science, chemistry, anatomy, physics, geology, mechanical engineering and technology. Emphasis is placed on active, hands-on group participation.
A team consists of up to fifteen students, and BHS typically forms two or three teams each school year for the Regional competition in March; competition events are assigned to pairs of students, with each team member typically entered in two to five events. Teamwork is a required skill in most scientific careers today, and Science Olympiad encourages group learning by designing events that build alliances.
